Artefact Museum

Located in an archaeological site in Tindari, Sicily, the museum concept was to integrate into the landscape. An indigenous green roof seamlessly blends into the surrounds. The uniquely cast base is shaped around the natural site features. Whilst the building’s materiality emulates the colours of the context.

The curved wall exhibition rooms lure the user in and add a unique exhibition space.

Curved Base

In plan, the uniquely cast base is shaped around the natural site features. On the floor, a unique concrete mix emulates the colours of the context.

Thermal Mass

Concrete was chosen for its versatility and structural plasticity. The undulations of the roof require a particular consistency and firmness of the material. The roof parapets are carefully moulded to specific curvatures that support the growing medium on top of multi-layered drainage insulation boards.
